In celebration of Giving Day 2023, on February 23rd we are celebrating the many ways that we Show Our Love for Maclay and are thrilled to introduce this year’s Maclay Sweethearts. These wonderful, heartfelt, and longstanding connections are part of what makes Maclay’s campus and our time together on it so special. We have many members of our community who come to work each day with their own Maclay “Sweethearts” and hope you will enjoy hearing their stories about their favorite memories together on campus. #showyourloveformaclay

Elizabeth & Matt:
What do you love most about Maclay?
We love all the happiness and joy that can be found daily around campus. No matter where you go, what building you’re in, or what grade you’re walking by, you’re going to hear someone laughing, see a smile or witness a big hug being given. It can be pretty magical and contagious.
What is your favorite part about having your sweetheart on campus with you?
We love seeing each other on campus, walking through the halls, or gathering at shared events. Despite knowing that we’re less than 50 yards from each other on a daily basis, it’s always such a pleasant surprise when we cross paths in the hallway or the teachers' lounge. To be able to work with family is a gift we try and never take for granted.
What is your favorite memory with your sweetheart at Maclay?
Co-teaching for a brief moment when I returned from maternity leave was pretty amazing. We were so lucky to have a few weeks where we taught in the same classroom, to make the transition as smooth as possible on the kids, in which we could learn from each other, and bounce ideas off each other. Not many people can say they had that chance!
Do you have a favorite event/tradition/holiday that you enjoy celebrating at Maclay with your sweetheart?
Any time is a good time to celebrate! However, we love being at events together with our classes. It’s pretty neat to sitting in a pep rally with our students cheering all around us and we could point across the room and say, “see that person? We’re family!”
