In 2018, the Board of Trustees approved a Safety and Facilities Fee to annually support non-recurring capital expenditures that could not be covered by the operating budget. This decision allowed tuition dollars to be allocated toward faculty support and ongoing capital needs, while the Safety and Facilities Fee was directed specifically toward safety and facility projects. These projects addressed deferred maintenance and new initiatives responding to the evolving needs of the school and education in general. Care is taken to ensure that all students benefit from this funding, as the fee is applied across all grade levels. Below is a list of major projects made possible by the dedicated work of this essential fund.
Classroom Expansion
Five new Classrooms added to the Cartee Gymnasium, Marian Lawton Langford Library, and Webster Gymnasium.
Traffic Lane Improvements
Road improvements around PreK and in front of the Beck Family Innovation Center have been added to assist with the flow of traffic for pick-up and drop-off.
ID Badge & Car Screening
Our security team is equipped with software to screen cars and licenses including background checks to clear campus visitors before they enter campus.
Maglocks and Cameras
Over the last several years, we have continued to expand our maglocks and gate systems to be controlled during pre-set times, or in the unlikely event of an emergency to be able to lockdown our facilities. We also have nearly 90 cameras on campus monitoring buildings and entrances.
Welcome Center & Guardhouse
The Welcome Center is the main entrance for all guests during the school day and also the home base for our security team. As part of the security enhancements, Maclay also invested in software for car screening and background checks.
Walkway Canopies
New canopies were added to the front of the Middle School replacing an awning and an additional walkway was added to bridge the Lower School to the PreK so students are protected from the weather.
