Building Excellence in our Classrooms and Campus

Maclay School’s 100-acre campus is comprised of many academic buildings, outdoor spaces, athletic facilities, and performance spaces.

Over the last decade, the Board of Trustees and faithful donors have recognized that the dreams and ambitions of our students and faculty had outgrown our facilities.  Beginning in 2018, the school began a capital expansion plan that has sought to outpace the growing programs and enrollment.  There is a deep understanding at Maclay that our ‘places serve our people’ and we continue to focus our energy on our mission which directs us to focus on ‘each’ student’s journey.  We are proud that our 100-acre campus is continually refining itself to better serve the dreams and ambitions of our amazing community.

Campus Improvements Underway in 2024

Maclay School is positioned in the Lake Jackson drainage basin and has stringent water management guidelines.  After the first 50 years of growth on our 100-acre campus, we had reached the capacity of both the south and north storm water facilities.  The Maclay campus is one of the highest points in Tallahassee and primarily drains north and south from that point.  In designing the north storm water pond, we were intentional to following the city guidelines to ensure that any future expansion on the north side of campus would be accommodated with this facility.  The school is proud to make this investment in our future and we look forward to the future facilities this makes possible.

Athletic Expansion 2025

The Athletics Master Plan provides instrumental support for the school’s athletics program which plays such an important part in the lives of many of our students.  The planned additions to the Athletics Facilities will provide enhanced facilities for our students to train and compete and will provide state of the art facilities for all students through our Physical Education Program and across the school’s 57 athletic teams.

Multi-Sport Training Pavilion  This open-air covered facility will provide space for athletes across all sports to train with shelter from the often harsh outdoor elements.  The covered facility will offer expansive space with specifically constructed athletic flooring and air circulation components to relieve the athletes from the heat and sun.  The space will encompass a flexible training area equivalent to 4 full size basketball courts.

This facility will have the capability to be enclosed in portions as support from the community allows, working towards the completion of a fully indoor training space for our Marauder athletes in the future.

Math and AI Classroom Expansion Spring 2025

Recent facility additions such as the Beck Family Innovation Center, Beck Family Research Center and Beck Family Center for Academic Excellence were built to transform the classroom experience on campus and provide facilities that meet the ambitions of our students and faculty.  These spaces have been transformational for what we are able to offer through our curriculum and for our students and we are excitedly moving forward with the school’s next academic expansion, which will include new classroom spaces for our Upper School students and our Math & AI Curriculum.

The Math & AI Classroom Expansion will provide new, state of the art classroom spaces for both Middle and Upper School Math students.  It will also add a state of the art, flexible classroom space to campus that will house the school’s new curricular path within the area of Artificial Intelligence.

Performing Arts Expansion

The experience of coming together to enjoy and be inspired by live performance and the creativity of our peers and community is a signature component of the Maclay performing arts program.  The planned expansion to performing arts spaces includes an outdoor performance pavilion that will provide spaces for students and performers of all ages to gather to enjoy live performance and outdoor assemblies.  This space will have lighting and sound capabilities, make it an engaging performance space for both our artists performing and for the community participating as patrons.

Aquatics Center

The long-range plan for the Aquatics Center includes the addition of a new 50-meter pool to allow for the Aquatics Program to expand both with a local and regional focus.

Tennis Facility

The tennis facility is benefitting from the addition of a half-court hitting wall and planned enhancements to the court playing surfaces.
