Our Statement of Belonging
At Maclay School, a sense of belonging is central to our mission as an educational institution. Diversity, equity, and belonging are fundamental to ensuring that each member of our community has an opportunity to thrive, lead others, and be a person of impact. By embracing our differences as a community, our approach to diversity, equity, and inclusion fosters an inclusive, welcoming, supportive, and healthy school culture that promotes genuine respect and acceptance of all members of our community. We are committed to equal opportunity for all persons and do not tolerate discrimination and harassment on any basis.

Maclay School is committed to Diversity, Equity, and Belonging in all areas of school life.  As a school with 3-year-olds up to 18-year-olds, we feel a unique responsibility to continually grow and teach the best way to prepare our students for the world they will one day lead.  Maclay School facilitates these conversations through curricular studies, assemblies, small group work, formal, and informal lessons. We view the conversations regarding diversity, equity, and belonging to be a journey we go on together with ever-deepening understanding.

Building understanding in these areas is one of the tenants of our strategic plan and as such occupies both strategic and tactical conversations within the school.  The school partners with external consultants and engages in ongoing professional development to determine the appropriate steps for our community.  We focus on the belonging of each individual in the context of our community, our state, our country, and the world.  We strive to do this through respectful conversations and partnerships with students and families. We continue mapping out and moving forward with a process to strengthen diversity, equity, and belonging at Maclay School in a thoughtful, collaborative, and sustainable way.
