Music at Maclay is for every student. From the Lower School special area rotation where every Marauder experiences music as part of their school day, to Upper School students performing in concert orchestras, recording original music, and competing at the highest levels, our program meets students where they are and takes them further than they imagined.

Whether a student is picking up an instrument for the first time or pursuing music at an advanced level, there is a place for them here.

Music to your Ears

Maclay's string orchestra program introduces students as early as 3rd grade to the joy and discipline of instrumental music, laying a strong musical foundation that grows with them throughout their academic journey.

Lower School

Music is part of every Lower School student's week as a core special area class. Students explore instruments from around the world including djembe drums and ukuleles. Starting in 4th grade, students are also introduced to digital music and music production. String Orchestra gives students in grades 3 through 5 the chance to perform throughout the year.

Middle School

Middle School students can explore music through strings and orchestra courses. Students who complete Strings I move into the full Middle School Concert Orchestra, performing throughout the year at school events and concerts.
