Stephen Chase was a four-year varsity Lacrosse standout and team captain while at Maclay from 2012-2015.  He was named an All-American and the 2015 All-Big Bend Player of the Year. He still holds school records for career goals (312), goals in a season (89), goals in a game (9), career points (431), points in a season (124), and points in a game (12). Under his leadership, Maclay won four straight district titles, going undefeated in district play throughout his high school career.

Stephen continued his Lacrosse career at the University of Notre Dame (2016–2020), where he was part of the 2018 ACC Championship team. After graduating, he began working in disaster recovery and currently works with Windstorm Mitigation, helping provide housing solutions for communities impacted by natural disasters. Through this work, he has had the opportunity to support response and recovery missions across the country - helping families get back on their feet after natural disasters.

Stephen says he is deeply grateful to his coaches, teachers, and the entire Maclay community for helping shape his character and values. The support and high standards he experienced pushed him to grow as both a student and an athlete - lessons that continue to guide him today.

Stephen lives in Tallahassee with his wife, Kate, also a 2015 Maclay graduate. The two met in middle school and now share a life rooted in service and community—Kate owns Lemon & Thyme, a local Midtown restaurant. In his free time, he enjoys triathlon training, traveling, and time with family and friends.

Sara Dunlap (’00) was a six-year varsity soccer player from 1995 to 2000. She was a dominant presence on the field, earning All-Big Bend Team honors every year, including two years as Player of the Year. Sara holds Maclay records for most goals and assists in a single season (1999 and 2000) and helped lead the team to an undefeated 28-0-1 record and the 1999 State Championship. Over her career, she scored 113 goals and provided 87 assists in 139 games. Sara also represented Florida on the Olympic Development Program for five years and was named Florida MVP in 2000. She made history as the first Big Bend soccer player to receive a scholarship offer to Florida State University, joining the nation’s eighth-ranked recruiting class.

Sara continued her soccer career competing at Florida State University, contributing to a highly competitive program while balancing her academics. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Textile Science in 2005 and later returned to complete a Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 2016, graduating Magna Cum Laude. Her college years further shaped her dedication, discipline, and leadership skills both on and off the field.

Sara says the most memorable moment at Maclay was winning the state championship. It was the culmination of years of hard work, dedication, and an incredible team bond. Also traveling to England to play soccer, a trip led by Coach Neil Sheppard, provided another amazing experience and memory.

Today, Sara lives in Tallahassee with her two children, Henley and Colson and serves as Comptroller at Syntech Systems, a technology company founded by her father. Alongside her brothers, Sara plays a vital role in this family-run business, which supports fueling mission-critical operations worldwide. Committed to her community, she serves on the Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and actively supports the ALS Florida Chapter, inspired by her mother Doris Dunlap’s courageous battle with ALS.

Molly Jones (’02) made an extraordinary impact on Maclay athletics across four sports: Track and Field, Cross Country, Soccer, and Swimming. In track, she won state titles in the triple jump (2000, 2002) and high jump (2002) and was a key contributor to three state championship teams. She also accumulated multiple medals in hurdles and set the school record in triple jump (38’5”).  Molly earned All-Big Bend honors in Track and Field across four years and was named Outstanding Field Athlete twice. Her determination was a key factor in the 1999 State Champion Cross Country team which earned her All-Big Bend accolade the same season.

During her time, Molly played soccer at Maclay where she tied the individual record for most points scored in a game. She played a pivotal role in the team’s success, including the 1999 District Championship. In addition to her field talents, Molly qualified for the state championship for Diving in 2000.

Molly continued her Track and Field career at Princeton University, where she was a consistent Ivy League finalist in the triple jump. Over four years, she placed as high as 3rd at the Ivy League Outdoor Championships (2005), finishing in the top eight in the league seven times. She still ranks 8th all-time indoors at Princeton and 10th all-time outdoors.

Molly says she deeply appreciates the opportunities that shaped her journey — Denny Bunn’s initiative in creating the diving program, Neil Sheppard’s willingness to believe in a small freshman and allow her to compete in the state soccer tournament, and Coach Gary Droze who had a way to include everyone regardless of ability. He made it fun but had high expectations, a coaching philosophy that she follows today.

After college, Molly worked in architecture before pursuing coaching full time. She earned a master’s degree in exercise physiology from Florida State and has since coached at FSU, Iowa, Davidson, and now the University of North Dakota, where she serves as jumps coach. She and her husband, Jim, also a collegiate coach, have two sons—Jaxson and Jett—and enjoy an active family life in Grand Forks, ND.
