2020 Commencement Speaker Announced
Maclay School announces Susie Busch Transou as the 2020 commencement speaker for the ceremony to be held on Friday, May 22. This will be Maclay School’s 49th senior class which will graduate 88 students.
Susie Transou is the great-great-granddaughter of the founder of Anheuser Busch. She took the knowledge and tools her grandfather and father showed her while running the company and worked for her own future and success. Transou graduated from Duke University with a degree in Public Policy and then went on to get her Masters in Management from The Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
After finishing her degree, Susie Busch Transou jumped right into the beer and hospitality business. She worked in various aspects of the beer business including sales and brand marketing and then entered the theme park subsidiary working with Sea World and Busch Gardens in marketing and product development. In 1996, she and her husband Tripp Transou moved to Tallahassee, Florida to purchase and operate a beverage distribution company, Tri Eagle Sales.
Susie’s entrepreneurial spirit was further stoked at a milestone birthday gathering of old and new friends where she reflected on unmet needs in her world and what feeds her soul. The answer led Susie to create a unique concept in retail that is reminiscent of the home; a haven within this fast-paced world where friends can connect and an inviting place to acquire carefully curated items from near and far. In 2015, she opened a new concept in hospitality retail, Hearth and Soul. Hearth and Soul is currently located in Tallahassee and Austin, Texas.
Susie and her family have given back to the community in many ways. She herself has served on multiple boards including, The United Way, Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare, the Great Tallahassee/Leon County Chamber of Commerce, and the Florida State University Board of Trustees.
"I am so excited to have Susie speak to our graduating seniors this year. Susie is an extraordinary mix of strategic clarity and emotional acumen,” shared Head of School, James Milford. “I've benefited from having a front-row seat as she leads by example in her family and business. She has put in countless hours and resources into Maclay School, is a mother of three Maclay graduates, and a force in the business community. Our new alumni are in for a great experience as Susie always speaks from the heart and I know she cares about our students as her own."
The Maclay School Commencement Ceremony will be held in the Robert C. Webster Athletics and Convocation Center.
