New Hires for 2019-2020

  • Susie Baker Lapp - Lower School Director 

    Susie Maclay welcomes Susie Baker Lapp to the faculty as the new Lower School Director. Susie brings over 26 years of educational experience to Maclay specializing in curriculum and instruction. After receiving her undergraduate degree from Earlham College, she went on to earn a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Maryland and a Master of Psychology from Capella University. After 13 years in the classroom and as an assistant principal, Susan co-founded an educational consulting company in Washington DC. In 2016, she then moved to Kikambala, Kenya to aid in the creation, design, and implementation of curriculum and instruction at the Mudzini School.

    Matthew Callahan - Middle School Social Studies Teacher 

    Callahan Maclay welcomes Matthew Callahan to the faculty as the new Middle School Social Studies Teacher (7th grade). Matthew has B.A. in History and French along with a M.A. in French and Francophone Studies from UCLA, and a M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction from University of the Pacific.  

     

    Bethany Miller - 1st/2nd Grade Assistant  

    Miller Maclay welcomes Bethany Miller to the faculty as a 1st Grade Assistant. Bethany has a B.S.W. in Social Work from Saginaw Valley State University and a M.A. in Professional Counseling from Central Michigan University.

     

    Ashley Peeples - 1st/2nd Grade Assistant  

    Peeple Maclay welcomes Ashley Peeples to the faculty as a 1st Grade Assistant. Ashley has an A.S. in Early Childhood Development and is currently attending Flagler College and finishing courses to obtain her B.A. in Elementary Education. 

     

    Seiler Aaron Seiler - Part-Time Orchestra Teacher (Grades 3-8)  

    Maclay welcomes Aaron Seiler to the faculty as our new Part-Time Orchestra Teacher for Grades 4-8. Aaron has a B.A. in English with minors in Psychology and Russian from Oberlin College; a B.A. in Music from Florida State University; and a M.M. in Performance from Florida State University. Aaron will be a great asset to our new and upcoming Orchestra Program.

    Wyly Jennifer Wyly - Chief Financial Officer  

    Maclay welcomes Jennifer Wyly to the Business Office this summer as our new Chief Financial Officer. Jennifer brings over 28 years of experience to Maclay in Finance and Operations. She has her B.S. in Accounting from Louisiana State University. 

    Harmon Matt Harmon - Lower School Music

    Maclay welcomes Matt Harmon to the faculty as the  new Lower School Music Teacher. Matt has a B.M.E. of Instrumental Music Education from Florida State University. 

    Lora Lora Hauser - 1st/2nd Grade Assistant

    Maclay welcomes Lora Hauser to the faculty as a 1st Grade Assistant. Lora has her B.A. in Marketing and Communications from Florida State University.

     

    VanTassel Sara VanTassel - Middle School PE 

    Maclay welcomes Sara VanTassel to the faculty as the new Middle School PE Teacher. Sara has a B.S. in K-12 Physical Education and Health from Defiance College. Sara will also be our new Middle School girls volleyball coach, Assistant Varsity girls soccer coach and Assistant girls softball coach.

    Herzog Kristy Herzog - Middle School Math

    Maclay welcomes Kristy Herzog to the faculty as the new Middle School Math Teacher. Kristy has a B.A. in Elementary Education with a Minor in Mathematics from Florida State University. 

    Spotts Aaron Spotts - US Teacher/Fine Arts Department

    Maclay welcomes Aaron Spotts to the Maclay Fine Arts Department. Aaron will be teaching Americana and AP Music Theory. Aaron has his Ph.D. from Florida State University in music composition. He has studied with Ladislav Kubik, Clifton Callender, David Lipten, Paul Richards, and Ellen Taaffe Zwilich. Previously, he received his B.M. from Western Washington University in music composition.                                        

    Nancy Ann Teems

    Nancy Ann Teems - Director of Health Services and School Nurse

    Maclay welcomes Nancy Ann Teems to Maclay as the new Director of Health Services and School Nurse. Nancy has her Master of Science in Nursing with a concentration in Nursing Administration from the University of South Alabama; and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Florida State University. Nancy has over 21 years experience as a registered nurse. She has worked with Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare as the Associate Director of Critical Care, and as the Nurse Manager for the Vogter Neuro ICU and is an accomplished Nurse Leader in our community. Nancy will be in the clinic starting January 6, 2020.

    Lillian Shettle - Pre-K4 Assistant

    Maclay welcomes Lillian Shettle to the faculty as a new Pre-K4 Assistant. Lillian has a B.S. in Economics from Florida State University and has completed coursework for Mental Health Counseling in the Masters Program at Florida State University.  

    FACULTY CHANGES FOR 2019-2020

    We are happy to announce some exciting changes for the 2019-2020 school year:

    Muriel Drake - As of November, Mrs. Drake will be working full-time in our Admissions Deparment as an Admissions Counselor.

    Jessican Gonzalez Loumiet - As of November, Mrs. Gonzalez Loumiet will be moving to the Front Office from the Pre-K to assume her new duties as the Front Office Receptionist.

    Stephanie Cornais - In addition to being our Pre-School and Lower School Science Teacher, Mrs. Cornais will add Director of Sustainability to her title. For the past four years, Mrs. Cornais has been the project manager of many successful sustainability projects here at Maclay. Her passion and expertise will provide us with cost-effective sustainability solutions, as well as lead us in integrating sustainability into our curriculum. Maclay School is one of the first schools in North Florida to have this position, and we are excited to be trailblazers for sustainability in education.
