A Day in the Life of a Pre-K 3 Year Old at Maclay
Children at the pre-kindergarten level learn mostly through play; therefore, we do a great deal of playing at Maclay Pre-K. We like to call it “sneaky learning” where children are having so much fun they don’t even know they are learning! Each week’s theme is an adventure for us- full of fun hands-on activities. Our day is packed full of learning opportunities in math, science, reading, art & music. Our goal is to foster the whole child emotional, physically and academically.
Pre-K 3 Day (7:50-12:00)
7:50-8:45: Children are greeted with a warm welcome and smile. They perform their morning jobs – put away their snack bag, lunch box and school bag. When finished, they are free to play or work with the teacher or assistant in small groups.
8:45-9:15: Outside play on our Pre-K playground complete with bikes, scooters, small gardens, play house, large waffle blocks, chalk boards, sand box, and climbing equipment.
9:15-9:45: Circle time- Calendar, Pledge of Allegiance, question of the day, show & tell, stories & songs
9:45-10:15: Snack Time
10:15-10:45: Centers- small group activities facilitated by the teacher & assistant and free play. Centers include imaginative play, building, train, puzzles, I-pads, and games.
10:45-11:15: Thematic Time – large and small groups learn about the theme of the week or Special Areas including Science Lab, Music, Spanish, & Library.
11:15-11:45: Outside play
Stay & Play (12:00-2:45) optional
12:00-1:00: Lunch/Games- children enjoy their lunch packed from home or one from our very own Marauder Meals in the classroom with their teacher and assistant. After lunch, the student can look at books or play games.
1:00-2:30: Quiet Time – Children snuggle on their rest mats for some rest while listening to soothing music
2:30-2:45: Students pack up their belongings and review the day.
Kids Club (3:00-6:00)
Children may stay with trained teachers in the Pre-K building until 6:00. They play on the playground, read stories, eat snack, and participate in music and art activities.
