Have you filled a bucket today?
Bucket Fillers is a program based on the educational programs of Merrill Lundgren, the Bucket Man. The children’s book, Have You Filled a Bucket Today: A Guide to Daily Happiness for Kids, by Carol McCloud, is rooted in his programs and pioneering work in schools. Bucket Fillers will help us learn the importance of respecting and appreciating others, expressing feelings in a healthy manner, understanding where feelings originate, and creating a positive classroom environment.
In our classroom, children are encouraged to be bucket fillers, and not bucket dippers! Every student will have a bucket of their own and will have the opportunity to fill buckets of classmates throughout the week through random acts of kindness, encouraging words, and by having helping hands. Students will record their bucket filling deeds on paper and place them in the appropriate bucket. At the end of each week, children will check their buckets and reflect on how it was filled.
