Meet our College Counseling Team. Dr. Scott Hampton, Chad McClellan, Melissa Bakas, Angela Croston and College Coordinator Lisa McCall, along with our six College Advisors: Dr. Paul Berk, Lisa Donaldson, Matthew Schnippert, Brandon Burrows, Lee Norment and Jessica Kerner, who all work with our students to help them find and achieve admission into the college of their choice.
Since Maclay School is a college preparatory independent school, we begin educating students in 9th grade to help them discover their dreams and goals for college. By the end of Junior year, each student has completed a resume, conducted mock college admission interviews, met with college representatives on campus, identified a desired list of colleges in which to apply, and selected a college advisor. Students, and their parents, also have meetings with Mr. McClellan in 9th and 10th grade and Dr. Hampton in 11th and 12th grade.
Seniors will also meet with their college advisor every day during Flex period throughout the senior year. Last year, 73% of the seniors were admitted to their TOP choice college and 94% will attend their 1st or 2nd choice college. The exceptional Class of 2016 was also offered over $8.2 million in scholarships, an average of $100,000 per student. Five seniors of 82 were also National Merit Scholars, which is SIX times the National average. Our seniors also volunteered nearly 18,000 hours to our community, averaging 218 hrs per student.
